Growing talent, building ambitions
At Bulsink, young colleagues are given the opportunity to learn, contribute and develop themselves in practice. They combine their education with challenging projects. This helps them discover where their talents lie and grow step by step in their profession. For Maurits Berghuis, Larn van Gullick, Mitchell van Dun and Koen Kuiper, working at Bulsink is more than a job alongside their studies. As a general contractor, the company is involved in construction and transformation projects from start to finish. This gives young colleagues a broad view of the construction process.
Getting the opportunity
For all four of them, that development started in a different way. Maurits first got to know Bulsink during a short work experience placement while he was still in secondary school. Years later, with a six-month gap between his higher professional education programme and pre-master, starting full-time was a logical step. He now combines his work as a calculator with the master’s programme Urban Systems & Real Estate at Eindhoven University of Technology.
As a calculator, Maurits prepares project budgets. He looks at costs, identifies risks and creates a realistic basis for further work preparation and execution.
Larn also joined through an internship. In his third year, he completed an internship at Bulsink through his internship agency. From the first meeting, he was enthusiastic. During his internship, he worked with the work preparation department. He is now working on his graduation research and continues to work flexibly alongside his studies.
Koen came into contact with the BIM department during his final year of secondary vocational education, where construction projects are digitally developed and prepared. That experience motivated him to start the higher professional education programme in Construction Technical Business Administration. Since then, he has grown into the role of Project Engineer, progressed to his third year and completed his assessment about Bulsink with a 9.
Learning in practice
Development at Bulsink is not only about gaining knowledge. It is also about guidance, trust and responsibility. Young colleagues work together with experienced professionals, ask questions and learn how projects are approached in practice.
Koen experiences this in his role as Project Engineer. “The most valuable thing I have learned here is taking responsibility and working well together. You are trusted, and that naturally makes you more independent.”
Guidance from experienced colleagues also plays an important role. Koen is supported, among others, by experienced project manager Wim Hanegraaf. In this way, current knowledge from education and years of practical experience are naturally brought together.

Growing with guidance

From creativity to construction
Mitchell shows how you can grow within the company and gradually discover which direction suits you best. He once thought about becoming an architect, but first chose Media Design because he enjoyed working creatively with image and video. During his internship as a BIM Modeller, he discovered that the combination of technology, visualisation and construction suited him well.
From that role, his interest in construction continued to grow, and he was given the opportunity to follow a higher professional education programme in Construction alongside his work. He recently completed that programme successfully with an 8.6. A great milestone, especially as Mitchell has now been working at Bulsink for five years. With his studies completed, he now works full-time in the BIM department.

Building the future together
Maurits, Larn, Mitchell and Koen each show in their own way how valuable the combination of learning and working can be. They bring new knowledge, fresh energy and curiosity. At the same time, they learn from colleagues who know the practice inside out.
Their stories show that development is not always a straight line. At Bulsink, it is not about having all the answers right away. It is about being given the space to discover what you are good at, what gives you energy and which direction suits you best.
