Carlos Berlanga Ibañez

What’s it like working at Bulsink? Who better to answer that question than our own people. Our EMPLOYEE STORY is designed to give you a behind-the-scenes look at our corporate culture. Today, it’s the turn of Carlos Berlanga Ibañez, a Project Engineer at Bulsink.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

“My name is Carlos Berlanga Ibañez and I’m 43. I grew up in Valencia, Spain and moved to the Netherlands for love in 2010. I’m happily married to Maartje and we have two daughters.”

“We live in Cromvoirt, a beautiful village near the small city of Den Bosch. In Valencia, I was a technical architect and spent a number of years in project development roles. When I moved to the Netherlands, I did anything and everything. I was a postman and even a chef in a Spanish restaurant!”

“I was lucky enough to land a job in my previous line of work in 2012. First as a Facility Manager for Inditex (the parent company of Zara and other companies), then with the municipality of Den Bosch and now with Bulsink. I’ve been enjoying my work even more ever since.”

THE INTERNATIONAL ATMOSPHERE HERE APPEALED TO ME STRAIGHT AWAY AND ALSO THE WARM WELCOME I RECEIVED FROM EVERYONE HERE AT BULSINK. AND ITS CLIENTS ARE ALL INTERESTING AND VERY AMBITIOUS.

- Carlos Berlanga Ibañez, Project Engineer for the Spanish market

How did you end up working at Bulsink? And what made you choose Bulsink at the time?

“Via my sister-in-law, who had worked here too. She thought that Bulsink would be a good match for me because of my qualifications and work experience. Although I was happy with the job I had at the time, I decided to grab a cup of coffee and have a think about it. And then I had a second and third cup of coffee and did some more thinking. Now, I’ve been working here for a year and I really love it.”

“The international atmosphere here appealed to me straight way and also the warm welcome I received from everyone here at Bulsink. And its clients are all interesting and very ambitious. When I started working here, Bulsink had coincidentally just opened an office in Spain. But I really like the connection I have with my homeland in the projects I do.”

You’re a project engineer. What does your work involve?

“Where do I start? Everything from inviting tenders to drawing up contracts. If a request comes in, I arrange a technical inspection and an initial estimate. I also organise various administrative matters, help extend our portfolio of subcontractors, do project management work and maintain contacts with clients. It’s a very dynamic environment and there’s always a lot going on.”

“I really enjoy the freedom I’m given, the international nature of projects and the opportunity to bring various parties together. The culture in Spain is different to the culture here in the Netherlands. The language is different and the same applies for the work we do. So, it’s important for us to learn from each other. As a Spanish person who has been living in the Netherlands for 12 years, I’m familiar with both cultures. This makes it easy for me to switch between the two and make connections.”

“I always work with a particular goal in mind and I like to roll up my sleeves and get involved.”

Bulsink’s core values are brand-conscious, ultra-fast, inspiring, leading and determined. Can you pick out one or two of these core values and explain what they mean to you?

“Determined. I always work with a particular goal in mind and I like to roll up my sleeves and get involved. I like action and I work hard to make sure that deadlines are met. I feel I’ve done my job well if clients are happy and parties that are very different are able to work together successfully.”

“I love the fact that the team around me has the same determined vision as me. And also that we support and inspire each other to achieve the objectives we have.”
